Plumbing Tulsa temperature and pressure relief valves .m4a

[00:00:02] Hello! Today I talked to my Tulsa plumbing customers about immature pressure release valves on water heaters temperature and pressure relief valve is exactly what it sounds like it’s a valve that relieves that temperature and or pressure on a hot water heater if they exceed certain parameters. I believe if I’m correct the temperature and pressure relief valve release if the temperature gets over 200 and 60 degrees or a hundred and eighty pounds per square inch Most plumbing Tulsa hot water heater systems have a temperature and pressure relief valve that is already installed on the tank.

[00:00:58] However there are some brands with temperature and pressure relief valve will need to be installed on the tank. The best way to install temperature and pressure relief valve on your plumbing. Also a hot water heater is to apply some threads sealant. Now there are many different kinds of threats you. We like to use some tough one tape and some pipe sealer or pipe dope. There are many different kinds of stuff on tape and that tells of plumbing supply houses. We’d like to use either blue giant or just the standard stuff on tape. Brand would be fine. Every time you apply tough one tape you want to wrap it in the same direction you would be going as if you were a tight tightening fitting onto the system for two.

[00:01:58] There wasn’t any time that you are going to connect to Tulsa plumbing piping system with tough on tape if you wrap to the left as you screw or tighten the fitting on it will unwrap that stuff on tape therefore rendering it useless for your plumbing system. So you always want to wrap to the right. Now how much tape do we put on. We like to wrap it around one and a half times enough to where it holds itself on. It wraps underneath itself. You can go to three and four times but by then the thickness of the tough one tape on your Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve is so thick on the threads that it starts to.

[00:02:59] Hurt because the threads are so full of the tapes do it sometimes you can get a cross thread in there.

[00:03:08] It doesn’t screw around properly or seal properly. It seems tight but it doesn’t have a good seal therefore it can leak. So we’ll do it tough one tape on our of plumbing sure and pressure relief valve one and a half to two times and then we’ll apply some pipe sealant or a pipe. Most of our pipe sealing has been tough one chunks in that you could probably get away with just tough one or just pipe see it. But we always like to do more one way plumbing because we’re the best Tulsa plumbers you will find in Tulsa plumbing we’ll that pipes the way and then war screw the temperature and pressure relief valve into the hot water heater then you’ll know the temperature and pressure relief valve because it has a white rod sticking out of it. It’s like a little trigger sensor. And then you’ll see a brass piece that has that turns like a 90 or an elbow one side will be have male iron pipe threads on it to screw into your tank. The other side will have female iron pipe threads.

[00:04:24] This is the average Tulsa plumbing customer can install a pipe off of the temperature and pressure relief valve. And then finally at the very end of the temperature and pressure relief valve you’ll see a silver piece of metal that kind of dangles there or drip lever. This is designed to when engaged it will trip and cause the temperature pressure relief valve to engage and release water out of the system.

[00:05:00] Now if you do this when the temperature and pressure relief valve is brand new on a Tulsa plumbing hot water heater no big deal it should seal right back in. But if you’re also plumbing hot water heater has been installed for several years. Anything over 2 to 15 that rubber seal that seals that temperature and pressure relief valve has been hot and cold and hot cold over all these years and days and time and what you’ll find is that the outer coating of the washer or rubber will stick to the seat that it was sealed against So once it’s tripped it will tend to want to drip or leak out of the Tulsa plumbing system from then on temperature pressure relief that was on hot water heaters once they trigger or crippler or start to bleed off.

[00:05:59] They are not designed to seal back this way the tank can’t be damaged or injured once it’s sealed that way to bring your attention so that we know that we need to correct this problem or make adjustments so that we don’t have any problems with our Tulsa plumbing system in the future. Once we have it installed the temperature and pressure release valve on our Tulsa plumbing hot water heater by.

[00:06:33] Right. Right. The left you see turn it to the right until it it’s real snow. You may want to use a pipe wrench to make this happen. You don’t have to tighten it as hard as you can. And he don’t want to tighten it too where there is no threads left. If you can see the threads along sometimes the outer casing on your Tulsa plumbing hot water heater will allow you to see the threads but don’t strain a muscle or a blood vessel trying to get it so tight it just needs to be real snug. Once you get it installed you’re ready to go and built what you want to do is you want to connect the pipe to your temperature and pressure relief valve and pipe it down to a drain that way. If you’re Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve ever trips or goes off then you will have water going everywhere.

[00:07:30] It’ll get to the drain safely and not hurt anybody and why I say hurt people because a Tulsa plumbing customer if they’re by temperature and pressure relief valve in that release is hardly ever does it release. And she worked out at a high rate of speed.

[00:07:48] It leaks and Spitzer sputters but that water coming out of your plumbing Tulsa hot water heater can be extremely hot to the point where it could burn you and leave an irritation on the skin. So that’s why we pipe it down the drain. So if you hear water run then you’re Tulsa plumbing hot water tank it and you open the door. If that if it’s coming from the temperature and pressure relief valve then it can spray again on your skin and burn you know. So if we have a pipe down to a drain or to the floor or to a pan. Then when you open the door it’s all below you. It’s not in your face eyes or hands of some hot water it gets on you it’s more manageable because you have shoes or pants or protective clothing on it at times.

[00:08:43] At one time the Tulsa plumbing code system required a temperature and pressure relief valve just to be ran to the floor. Then a few years later the Tulsa plumbing code officials changed the rules and said that we had to have a hot water heater sitting in that drain pan which is to me a good idea as long as there’s a floor drain or an outside somewhere where you can bring it to sometimes a hot water heaters and turn off in the middle of the home. There’s not always a place to drain too but you still have to have a pan. And now you’re really in a tricky situation. So we would install the temperature and pressure relief valves to the Tulsa plumbing hot water heater paint and and then the paint would drain to the drain.

[00:09:32] Well for some reason the Tulsa plumbing city officials believe that that is not as good of a system as if the temperature and pressure relief valve would just run to the floor drain itself and not to the pan first.

[00:09:50] Now I understand that if Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve goes off in a pan and it goes off hard it gets splatter and get back up on you. Same as if it was going to a floor and probably do better on a floor than the pan. But my point is it can still do that in a floor drain. Actually it might even do have a better chance to do it and a floor drain because usually you have an air conditioning condensation lines. You have the hot water here pan and now you get the temperature and pressure relief valve running all to the same forward drain which is overly crowded already.

[00:10:36] And so there’s many different angles in pipes for the Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve to have around it splatter angles.

[00:10:51] To me it’s more dangerous. And your time Tulsa the temperature pressure relief valve could be going off and trip and go right down the drain and you would never know. You wouldn’t know that you had a problem that you needed the dress until it got to the point it was so bad it would be a bigger issue. Now if you’re testing the temperature and pressure relief go to the pan the pan is designed to hold at least an inch of water before it drains out so that your hot water heater usually is affected that way too where it’s not operating correctly so you go investigate and see what the problem is and you can address that problem and get it taken care of before there’s any major malfunctions or damage occurring.

[00:11:38] But currently in the Tulsa plumbing codes we need to run the temperature pressure relief valve piping to a drain now all the temperature and pressure relief valve piping needs to be adequate for hot water. So you’re you don’t want to use PVC on your temperature and pressure relief valve you want to use a good quality Tulse of plumbing PVC pipe or a PEX type of material or a copper type material galvanized will work.

[00:12:16] But mainly you want to stay away from PVC.

[00:12:22] There are some poly.

[00:12:26] Materials out there piping but they seem to do good for a few years and then fall off. So I would stay away from those. Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve is under enormous amount of pressure because the opening pipe is open on that. And so you don’t have to worry too much about leaks on the fittings or pipe integrity because this doesn’t have it’s not. And there are going to be in there a whole water pressure. One of the worst things you can do to a Tulsa plumbing temperature and pressure relief valve is to cap it off. One of the worst things I’ve seen. Tulsa plumbing customers do is take their plumbing Tulsa temperature relief valve and cap it. They either do this for a number of reasons. They think it’s going to leak or it is leaking and they want it to stop so they cap it because they don’t know what it’s for. What can happen then is that the take increases with too much pressure and or temperature that the tank actually turns into. What would most effectively understand to my Tulsa plumbing customers is a small hydrogen bomb. And when a Tulsa plumbing hot water tank explodes it usually takes out that house then it’s in both the houses next door to it flies up into the air almost a mile and lands two or three miles away from the.

[00:14:09] And we’ll go over that in a little more articles. But there’s many videos that you can see on YouTube or online about hot water heaters exploding or commercial hot water here is that of the explosion taken out strip centers. Luckily not too many people were hurt. That’s why temperature and pressure relief valve on your tussle plumbing system is so important.
